There's definitely overlap, as you say both genres exist to reflect our contemporary world. I also find it harder to imagine the extremes of Sci-fi now we're living in such a technological world.

Agreed. Some written science fiction now is so head-spinningly ‘out there’ it’s more hard work than pleasurable reading trying to decipher it. I’ve given up on novels 100 pages in, not having the faintest clue what is going on.

I went through a phase of buying retro sci-fi bundles on my Kindle - 1950s and 1960s stuff. A very mixed bag, but there were some great stories in there.
